CDC Guidelines
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises healthcare personnel to avoid artificial nails to maintain proper hand hygiene. UM BWMC Policy
BWMC has implemented a policy prohibiting the use of methyl acrylate UV hardened gel nails for healthcare workers. This policy is in line with current UM BWMC policy.
AORN Recommendations
The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) recommends the following concerning acrylic artificial nails:
- Avoid manicure cuticle cutting and nail filing
- Avoid artificial and gel nails
