Liz Truss Resignation Honours List Unveiled

30 December 2023

Former Prime Minister Grants Awards to Close Associates

London, UK - Former Prime Minister Liz Truss has published her long-awaited resignation honours list, sparking controversy with its perceived bias towards Conservative Party donors and allies.

The list, which grants awards such as knighthoods and OBEs, has drawn criticism from opposition parties and public figures who argue that it rewards individuals who have made significant donations to the Conservative Party rather than those who have made notable contributions to society.

Among those honored is Peter Saull, a businessman who has donated over £100,000 to the Conservative Party. Saull has received a knighthood, the highest honor on the list. Other recipients include former Conservative ministers Helen Catt and Sean Seddon, who have been awarded CBEs.

The list has been met with widespread condemnation from opposition politicians and commentators. Labour Party leader Keir Starmer has called it a "slap in the face to working people," while Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey has accused Truss of "rewarding her friends and donors." The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has also expressed concern, saying that the list sends a "dangerous message" that influence can be bought with money.

The Conservative Party has defended the list, arguing that the recipients are all deserving of their awards. However, the controversy surrounding the list is likely to damage Truss's reputation further and raise questions about the Conservative Party's commitment to transparency and accountability.
