Medal Winners from the Host Country

Great Britain, the host of the 2012 Summer Olympics, came in third place with 65 medals overall. The British team won 29 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals.

China's Strong Showing

China came in second place in the medal standings, with 38 gold medals and 91 medals overall. This was an improvement over China's performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where they finished first with 51 gold medals.

United States Dominates Gold Medal Count

As expected, the United States topped the medal table with 46 gold medals and 104 medals overall. The U.S. team's strong performance was due in part to its success in swimming, track and field, and basketball.
