Scotlands World Cup Hopes In The Balance After Nations League Defeat

Scotland’s World Cup Hopes in the Balance After Nations League Defeat

Scotland’s hopes of reaching the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar now hang in the balance following their 2-1 defeat to Poland in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday night.

The Scots needed to avoid defeat in their final Nations League group match in order to top the group and secure a play-off spot for the World Cup, but they were undone by goals from Krzysztof Piatek and Arkadiusz Milik in the second half.

Scotland had taken the lead in the first half through John McGinn, but they were unable to hold on and now face an anxious wait to see if they will be one of the eight teams to qualify for the play-offs through the Nations League.

The defeat was a major blow to Scotland’s World Cup hopes, but they still have a chance of reaching the finals if they can finish as one of the three best-ranked teams in the play-offs.

The play-offs will take place in March 2022, and Scotland will be hoping to be one of the lucky teams to book their place in Qatar.

Scotland’s defeat to Poland was their first in the Nations League, and it means they finish second in their group behind Poland.

Scotland will now have to wait until November 2021 to find out if they have qualified for the World Cup play-offs.

If Scotland do qualify for the play-offs, they will be one of the favorites to reach the finals, but they will need to be at their best to overcome the other teams in the play-offs.
